ROCHESTER N.Y. - Not quite the start to the season that the Niagara Power was looking for, as they drop their season opener to the Rochester Ridgemen 6-4. A turbulent 6th inning proved too much to overcome, as the Ridgeman were able to put up 3 runs to take a 4-3 lead and never looked back. Jaylon Lee had the first base hit of the season for the Power and soon after Derek Penman drove in the first run to give the Power a 1-0 lead. After Rochester tied it up in the bottom frame, the Power got up 3-1 on Runs scored by Cutone and Blanchard. Starting Pitcher C.J. Gonzales threw 5 quality innings for Niagara, giving up just the 1 run on 2 hits while adding 2 strikeouts. Brandon Backman, Max Adams, and Wyatt Linde also pitched out of the bullpen for the Power, with Backman taking the loss for the game. Backman falls to 0-1 on the season.
The Niagara Power will be at Sal Maglie Stadium tomorrow night for opening day against the Genessee Rapids.
